UP3214Q, Apple MBP 2016, not working

Serial number: CN-0K3R90-74445-4B2-224P, REV A02 (manufactured date: Nov 2014)

MacBook Pro 2016 (15 inch): standard setting

I purchased the monitor recently and used the DisplayPort-to-mini-DisplayPort cable included in the monitor. I plugged in the DisplayPort part to the monitor and the mini-DisplayPort to the Mac adaptor (Thunderbolt-3 to mini-DisplayPort), then finally the Thunderbolt-3 part to my MacBook Pro.

Once it connects, the monitor goes into the power saving mode. I enabled the DisplayPort 1.2 in the monitor.

When the monitor is connected to older MacBook Pro 2014 (without Thunderbolt-3, hence without the adaptor), it is working fine, although not at the full resolution (which my old MacBook Pro does not support). I also checked that the Mac adaptor is working fine.

I wonder why the monitor is not working with new MacBook Pro 2016. I bought it from Digitech.ch

I would not trust the adapter to older mDP to DP cable. Get a USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort cable.

I just got a new MBP 15 maxed out everything, and a new  USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort cable to connect my monitor, and nothing, I can not get the monitor to see the computer is connected to it?

Same problem here, and that's with a brand new USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort cable.

Unknown. We do not have a MBP 2016 to test on. I was basing my comment about the cable on our Dell laptops that also have the USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 out port. You should post on the Apple Support Communities and see if they can offer some insight or troubleshooting steps.

I just wanted to share a solution I've found. I connected my DELL monitor to my new 2018 MacBook pro with a mini display port to USB C adaptor and at first it worked but after unplugging it a couple of times it stopped working. No signal to monitor. I tried a different port and it worked again, then stopped again and finally I could not get anything to work. Baffled and extremely frustrated, I tried everything. Finally I decided it was the connection between the adaptor and the cable. I then tried putting a fork (yes just a simple metal fork - the food kind) to each connection to remove any static electricity and then reconnected and it fixed the problem. It works without fail every time.
