UltraSharp 2405FPW Problem

I have an HDTV Tuner attached to my 2405FPW via Component Cables, but the picture resolution is always 480i. Why can't I get 1080i? Is it a function of the HD tuner? I have an HDTV in the living room with the same tuner and I never had to change a setting on it to get 1080i. Any help is appreciated.

Yes, it's up to your tuner what resolution it puts out.

Have you checked the specs for what it will support over component?

No I have not, but guess what I'll be doing as soon as I get home today? I'm really disappointed to know that because of HDCP (or whatever it's called) will keep me from using DVI.

You sure about that? Most cable boxes and HDTV tuners don't support HDCP anyway so it's not a problem.

Originally I tried to connect my HD Tuner to the monitor via DVI, but an error kept appearing saying that there was no signal. When I was digging through these forums, I found another post from a guy who had the same problem. He and others said it was due to the HDCP, and that the tuner would shut down its DVI connection since this monitor was recognized as compatible. You know any more about this?

'Fraid not, but if you post the make and model of your HD tuner then maybe someone will know if it supports/requires HDCP.

I figured out how to change the output resolution to 1080I. A feature my cable company failed to show me. The picture still looks distorted. Not a surprise since it was distorted when they hooked it up to my regular T.V. I'll have someone come out and try to fix it. Still unable to use DVI though. My HD Tuner is a Motorola, Model: DCT 6208/1000. Anyone know it it's HDCP capable?

The 6208 needs HDCP on the DVI port only.

Your 6208 will not work over DVI as your 2405 is not HDCP compliant.

You can feed it over composit just fine.

Make sure you set the 6208 to output at 16x9

If you get the cable guy out ask him to help hook up the DVI as well. Ask him if the DVI connection uses HDCP. With luck it doesn't. I took a quick look at the manual for the 6208 and there's no mention of HDCP.

Just as I feared. What's the deal with HDCP anyway? What's the point? I set the tuner to 16x9 with 1080I as well. The picture doesn't seem to be at the quality I think it should. I want to thank everyone for all your input. Thanks for responding. I'll post again after the cable guy shows up next Wed. to let you know how it goes. D - a - m - n Dell for not making the monitor HDCP compliant!

FWIW, I can't tell the difference between a component signal and a DVI signal from my HD cable box.

HDCP is intended to stop the pirating of HD content. Google define:HDCP

Thanks mLeeper...I'm surprised the manual doesn't mention HDCP, but I should have Googled as well - the info is everywhere.

I've been told that HD Tuners with HDMI outputs are not HDCP compliant. Can anyone verify this? If so, I may have solved my problem with the DVI to Monitor connection.
