XPS 18 with Dual P2414H Monitors

Hi guys,

I wish to purchase a Dell XPS 18 (XPS18-i7-3537U) but due to my line of work also want to incorporate a pair of dual monitors (Dell P2414H's). I will link the screens up through a Dell SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Docking Station. Before I make this larger purchase of monitors, docking station and XPS 18, I want to know if this set up will be possible without any further modifications and if the graphics card on the XPS 18 is capable to run such a set up. Keep in mind, I will not be using this system for entertainment purposes, mainly for work which doesn't demand too much from a graphics card in general.

Please can anyone advise me on this as Dell support in South Africa (I'm from South Africa by the way) are not sure and cannot give me a proper answer?

Thanks in advance,

Ozzy

Someone on another forum is running his XPS 18 with two external monitors, via USB3>HDMI adapters, without problems; the video card seems to support three monitors. Whether or not the Dell docking station does is another matter, but it seems technically possible.

The XPS 18 (1810) User's Guide is here but does not mention using the XPS 18 with a docking station to power external monitors. The XPS 18 parts page does not list a docking station. Do not confuse part number KM1MH/JW2VY as a dock. It is simply the stand. I cannot find any Dell documentation that states we tested it in the way you want.

Hi Chris,

I am aware of the docking stand and the difference. In this case I'm referring to the actual Dell SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Docking Station (Manuf. Part#: YWDN0 Dell Part#: 332-0446), which is a separate purchase. Is it possible to tell me that via this docking station, which allows for the usage of dual monitors and three monitors in total (including the input PC/AIO as allowed is mentioned by both Dell and Targus who makes the part), the graphics card of the XPS 18 (Intel HD Graphics 4000) will be able to run multiple monitors? I am aware of people saying that it can run two monitors and should be able to run three, but I am not aware about it with regards to the actual Dell XPS 18 and running two additional monitors via the docking station.

Is it possible to check with other people as well and refer back to me?

Thank you.

We never tested this. We will just have to wait and see if other XPS 18 users have tested this.

Thank you for the help Andrew.

I have gone ahead and placed my order for all the equipment. Your response settled my mixed feelings on the issue.

I thank you for the assistance and appreciate the help.

Cheers,

Ozzy
