dell e1909w - how to reduce the display area ?

Hi,

I have a Dell E1909W monitor, all is well, except that now I have a monitor shield that is one inch too narrow (15in) for the monitor width of 16in.

Is there any way of manually setting the display width to be not full width of screen ?

I have tried some of the different resolution combinations, and some of them (probably the ones with same aspect ratio) caused the display area to shrink a little. So I'm happy about that, but the screen quality is not as good anymore. Anyway at least my wife can see the whole display thru the screen radiation guard.

Thanks Chris

rbremers,

The only way I can think of is actually lowering the video card desktop resolution. Test some of those resolutions.

Thanks Chris,

I have already tried some of them, and the result still took up full display area. I'm not sure if I need to restart Windows each time, please advise.

Also, the fact that the picture always fills the display area makes me think that maybe there is some option that causes it to automatically resize to fill full screen.

What I want is to have half an inch black bar on left and right. Reason being that my wife purchased screen guard for 19in monitor, which is 15inches wide, but the del E1909W is 16inches wide.

I remember doing this sort of thing with CRT monitors
