sp2208wfp problem! forever in blank screen/power save mode

Hi!

I recently just got a sp2208wfp monitor and I am using a inspiron 530 desktop (which I also recently got). A few things occur with my sp2208wfp monitor. One time I told my desktop to go into sleep mode since I was going to be gone for a few hours. When I came back and moved my mouse to get out of sleep mode, my monitor was forever stuck in a blank screen (with the power light orange). I know the desktop is working because I can hear sound when I type on the keyboard etc, but the monitor won't "wake up". I started pressing buttons on the laptop trying to adjust its settings, but it just shows me Auto dect power save mode or something to that sort.

This has already happened to me twice, another time when I just left my computer for 1-2 hours and the screen won't wake up. Both time I had to resort to a hard reset (pressing the desktop button for 10 sec manually) and I know it can't be good for the computer.

Is my monitor defected? Should I get a replacement? Or is there something I can do to fix this problem?

Thank you for your time.

Does this happen to anyone else or is it just me? It just happened to me twice again. The monitor just doesn't come back on!

crazeguy,

DVI or VGA? Check them both.

* Right click anywhere on the desktop
* Click Properties
* Click the Screen Saver tab
* Choose None
* Click Apply
* Click the settings or Power button to the right of the globe
* You should be on the Power Schemes tab
* Under the heading Power Schemes choose Home/Office Desk
* Under Settings for Home/Office Desk
- Turn off monitor = After 3 minutes
- Turn off hard disks = After 5 minutes
- System standby = Never
* Click Apply
* Click the Advanced tab (if listed)
remove any checks
* Click Apply- OK if you made any changes
* Click the Hibernate tab
remove any checks
* Click Apply - OK

Now, the monitor blacks out after 3 minutes. Can you wake up the monitor with the mouse?

I am also having a similar issue.

SP2208WFP works using VGA, however when I try to use the DVI it stays stuck in Power Save Mode.

My graphics card is the Geforce 8600GT. I have two of these LCDs and both have the same problem.

There must be a solution...

kingambrose,

Do you have both the DVI and VGA cables connected to the video card at the same time? if you do, remove the VGA. When you press the Video input select button, it should read Auto Detect (2: Digital Input).

Hi,

No, I only had the DVI cable connected. It was still stuck in Power Save Mode. Screen was showing nothing on boot up and I had to turn off the computer using the power button.

I have been onto Tech Support about this issue (with two brand new screens). I got one replacement this morning, and no problems at all. Plugged it in via DVI and it just works. Restarted the PC and its still working.

Very strange problem. I will be sending the 2nd LCD back for replacement tomorrow.

I'm having the same problem with my monitor (I'm using the white DVI cables). I bought an XPS420 system a couple of weeks ago and am running Windows Vista Home Premium. When the computer goes to sleep only the PC wakes up. The monitor won't come out of sleep. I have to manually shut down the computer (which can damage my hard drive) and tech services said to just replace the monitor but can't guarantee that I will get the same monitor and that it will be new not refurbished on. Anyone have suggestions on fixes for this? I spent to much money on the system to have problems that will damage it in the long run.

2nd LCD arrived this morning. Same problem.

I tried the 1st replacement LCD (the working one) on the 2nd Vostro 400, just to check if its the PC/graphics card causing the problem. The LCD is working fine.

There is obviously a problem with this LCD model.

Kingambrose,

I'm having the same problem with my new XPS with the same monitor. I had all kinds of sleep problems using the DVI cable. I thought is was sometihing I did wrong! Tech support said they would send new monitor after I tried it on old PC. I put it on old PC (only has VGA hookup) and it worked fine. Put it on the new system with the VGA and it's still working. I don't think I should have to use VGA when I should be able to use DVI.  Do you think they'll send me a new monitor? Is your new monitor working still? Did they send you  a 'new' one or refurbished? I WILL NOT accept anything but new!  I've too much $$$ in this.

P.S.  I don't have the same graphics card as you, just the ATI HD 2400 PRO - 128MB (I;m not a gamer)

Any info would be appreciated. I'm tired of trying to fix this problem....hours of MY time. Thanks!

The first replacement monitor is still working. Haven't had any problems with it at all (worked straight out of the box). Its working on both Vostro 400 machines (excactly the same spec PCs).

I was sent a replacement for the 2nd monitor, and it doesn't work on DVI or VGA on either machine. They are sending another replacement on Monday.

I've tested the faulty monitors (DVI only) on 3 different Dell PCs with 3 different graphics cards. Same problem.

Someone from Dell is to ring me on Monday about this issue. All replacement monitors have been 'new' (from what I can tell).

You should refer any Customer Service staff you deal with, to this thread. Let them know others are having the same issue.

I hope that Dell will have a fix for this soon as its a very nice monitor (when working of course!).

I have the exact same problem with my SP2208WFP, i got it like 1-2 weeks ago, but time restraints made me not unpack it untill saturday.. Was really exciting, and the monitor looks nice and all.

But I couldnt get it to work in DVI, VGA works just fine, and havent had the chance to test HDMI yet.

I'll need to call dell support i guess, and get a working replacement, cause running it on VGA is not an option for me.

I'm on the phone now with Dell about this. I'll let you know how I make out. I'd even be willing to accept a different monitor with the same features (with a credit though). This must be a universal problem with this model monitor. You'd think they'd get the hint already.

Dell is sending out my 2nd monitor today. First, they said it was probably my 'video feed' . I suppose it could be. It works just fine on my old 4550 (6yrs.) running XP with the VGA cable attached. It also works just fine (2 days) on the new XPS with the VGA cable. Changed it out to the DVI Sunday AM and by 1pm it was screwing up again. After I told them about this thread, they asked for serial # of monitor and came back on the phone to say they would send another monitor. I'll keep you all updated.

If it's not the monitor - I think I'll send the whole thing back and buy a Gateway! My husband is angry that I've had to spend so much time messing with this already.
