4196:(pid 966816): Failed to get port range from local nsrexecd: Service not available.

Hi,

Since a while I'm getting problems with one of my Networker agent like:

4196:(pid 966816): Failed to get port range from local nsrexecd: Service not available.

39077:savefs: error, Failed to initialize ports using nsrexecd on server.com

4196:save: Failed to get port range from local nsrexecd: Failed to initialize ports using nsrexecd on server.com

etc...

Server details:

AIX - 5.3

Networker agent version - Release 7.5

Did somebody resolve similar issue?

Thanks,

BR,

Mario

Might be firewall or too narrow range configured for ports.  This is usually where you see this happening.  Ofc, since this is AIX 5.3 running 7.5, it might compatibility issue too assuming your server is using some of the modern and supported code bases.

Hi,

The strange thing is that even I got those issues with failing ports, in most of the cases backups will continue and will finish with status success and completed. On that server I've only two Oracle databases in version 10.2.0.4

It vanished from my memory, but Oracle in the past used to come with Legato agent so I wonder if this is enabled - might mess around.  However not sure if that still the case with Oracle 10 (I believe not).  If all works fine, it might be simple issue with version compatibility.  Where I have Oracle 10 I use 8.0.4.x and NMDA 1.2 (with some patch if I remember correctly).  So far I didn't see this issue yet in such combo.

Thanks for swift answer, it  will be great if we can upgrade to Networker release 8 but on now I see that we need also upgrade our AIX version cause:

"NetWorker 8.0 and later releases dropped support for the following operating systems: ◆ HP-UX 11i v2 ◆ Windows 2003, 2003 SP1, 2003 R2 ◆ AIX 5.2, AIX 5.3 ◆ Solaris 9"

Cheers,

Ah, didn't consider OS support... good catch.
