Anyone have a good spreadsheet or process for reporting?

I'm trying to figure out a quick an easy way to use the report info from mminfo into an excel sheet thats already setup for monitoring the job success/reporting etc. I have tried to use the one that comes with the networker operations console open_report.xls but I don't know what export syntax it needs. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

Perhaps it uses -x option where you can specify either XML (-xm) or -c (-xc) where it displays values separated by any single character (eg. mminfo -xc, will produce comma-separated values). I guess that would be rather handy for further Excel manipulation after.

Networker Management Console has reporting functionality in it and if you upgrade to Networker 7.3 is now the main GUI but I am not too sure if the reporting functionality may be an extra cost as NMC used to be an additional cost...

There are tools out there such as Bocada and WysDM amongst others or you can use Networker's reporting functionality (primarily mminfo) depending on what your requirement and budget is!

David,

It is not at extra cost - it is free. However with mminfo you have much wider range of possibilities. Some companies (at least one that I have seen) sometime require reports in Excel as they manipulate that data further with other reports - thus you would still need to save NMC reports as CVS and again manipulate them. 3rd party tools again rely on mminfo. The best approach is to read mminfo manual (not that hard) and build its own query/report which after you can easily feed to Excel.

I'd agree on this one; pretty much all the information you will need can be extracted with mminfo. The 3rd party applications are manipulating data behind the scenes using mminfo - they may produce some nice diagrams but won't give you much extra for quite a bit of money... Generally the 3rd party addons are best when you have a non-technical manager who would like a pretty picture to make him feel like things are going smoothly (and money not an object)! ;) If it is for yourself or technical colleagues mminfo output should be fine as well as free!
