Backing up DB2 with NetWorker for beginners
Hey guys,
I need to backup a DB2 database with networker. I'm not much of a DBA, so this is kind of challenging.
I run networker 8.0 on server and client side. NMDA 1.2 is also installed on the client. As I can say the DB2 database is running version 10.
I thought I just install networker and NMDA on the client side and the rest is done by the networker client wizard. As I leant that is not the way it is gonna work. The client wizard just gives me the option to backup the filesystem.
I did read the DB2 section in the installation and administration guide of the NMDA module which actually helped not so much.
Do I need to set a link like in an Oracle environment?
What do I need to put in the NMDA config file? Is the db alias enough?
I would really appreciate some help.
Cheers
Jan

Did you read NMDA installation guide? I would also suggest to use 1.5 at least.

Ok, I see.
What do I need to do to get the DB2 option in the client wizzard? So far I just get this:

Linking is done in Oracle environment. In DB2 you need to unset vendor ini pointers (see page 34 of installation guide).

I just did. I don't see any differences to the 1.2 when it comes to linking the NMDA module to the database environment.
Linking is for me something like doing "ln -s blablubb". I don't need to do this for an DB2 instance?

Usually you need NMDA installed and registered with local nsrladb and nsrauth enabled on both points of communication. I don't use wizard, but these were some generic requirements for wizard to work.

Sorry - too early. I though you were already running restores.
The issue obviously is that the NW client does not recognize the capabilites.
Did you restart the NW client daemon (nsrexecd) ?

Couple of times!
Do I need to configure the NMDA config file yet?

Done that!
Still no DB2 option within the wizard.
Can someone else provide help?
Cheers

I updated to NMDA 1.6 and after the installation I get this:
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
1:lgtonmda ########################################### [100%]
42503:nsrdb2ra: Program not registered
Automatic wizard registration command /usr/sbin/nsrdb2ra -i failed.
Please refer to documentation for manual steps.

yes - as only Informix, Oracle and Sybase have restrictions. exceptions.
However, IMHO the wizard should already recognize that the NMDA software is in place.

Due to missing documentation it is not so easy to quide you as the CLI Refence clearly states:
The nsrdb2ra command should not be run on the command line without instructions from NetWorker Customer Support.

You will find it in the NMDA Command Line Reference

From what I see nsrdb2ra -i fails (perhaps user@hostname is needed for wizard to work?). I assume one could try to debus as to why it fails or simply revert to manual steps as claimed in quoted docs (if not documented in install guide, then contact support for those steps).
