Backup an ESX machine with Networker 7.6.2.....it's possible?
Hello.
Well...My boss insists that I can make a backup of ESX machine, I mean the virtual machines it may contain.
I read a lot of discuss, forums, etc... at last I think it's impossible to do it.
Am I right?

Buenos días. Te respondo en español, para ayudar a Bobby. Efectivamente, puedes realizar un backup del ESX instalando un cliente de Networker en él. Con esto podrás "levantar" toda la información del sistema operativo. Pero, si además quieres respaldar las máquinas virtuales contenidas allí, deberás detenerlas primero y levantarlas como archivos planos. Espero que esto haya aclarado tus dudas.

Hi,
Yes it is possible to backup virtual machines that are on an ESX server. You can back them up using a proxy virtual machine which means you don't have to install the client software on each Virtual Machine to be backed up. You will find full details on how to do this here:

Well, I don't know your answer resolve my question.
So...I can backup ESX OS with Networker 7.6.2?
I remember that ESX 3.5i, perhaps 4.0, have a "ROM" which have OS of ESX and not its necesary install ESX because the machine have OS own.

Hi,
So you want to backup the linux console on the ESX server? You can install the NetWorker client for linux in the console and backup anything in there. There isn't much to backup though and I think most people prefer just to re-install the console should they need to. You cannot backup your Virtual Machines from there unless you shut them down beforehand. You may have issues with failed dependancies on install - check out this article for details.
