Build new server with same configuration as previous version 7.6.1
Please help.
We are facing some hardware issues with existing Networker server (Windows Server 2003 32Bit). Now we need to build a new server (Windows Server 2008 R2 64-Bit) with better hardware configuration, new IP address and Name. Would you please suggest the steps how to carry out this operation. Suggest me also if there is a way to backup the existing server and restore to new server to have the all existing configuration.

Do you still have the existing windows machine up or is not t down? If it is up, do you copy the nsr folder to the new server.

Thanks Dear ,
Yes. The NSR folder is copied to the same path to the new server.
Please let us know the steps after copying the nsr folder so that the application to run same as old server.

Hello Kamal,
For building new Networker server and moving old backups to New server, I would recommend you to please work with EMC support team. Its not as simple as to publish here all steps.
Regards,
Pawan

Kaiser ,
Install networker pointing to the same location, ensure you dont overwrite as you will be asked in the course of the installation. Also you might have to create the client resource for the new backup server. But try without creating the client if the services start well and good, else try creating the client offline connecting the nsrdb through nsradmin.
Let me know how it goes.

If you wish to perform this task by own, you can download Networker Procedure Generator and generate a document to perform it.
For your case, it will generate a 20 pages document which includes complete procedure for this task.
Still I would recommend you to work with EMC support to get this task done.
Best of Luck !

The major issue would be the different server name.
If you just would use the same name, then it is almost like a standard NW disaster recovery routine.
In this case i would follow this guideline:
- On the old server, install a NW version which is also compatible with Windows 2008.
- Run a successful bootstrap backup. Just as a security issue.
- Shut down NW.
- Copy the major database directories
/nsr/mm
/nsr/index
/nsr/res
to a USB disk or a network share.
- Rename or disconnect the server.
- Bring up the new server with the same name as before.
- Install the same NW version and stop the services.
- Rename original database directories
/nsr/mm
/nsr/index
/nsr/res
and copy the previous ones here.
- Finally start the NW services.
- Do not forget to do a host transfer of your licenses.
There would be some more minor issues but this is the general way.
Good luck.

Dear crazyrov,
We have done following steps.
1. nsr copied from old server to new server.
2. Old server shutdown.
3. Re-Configured the new server.
Everything like Group, Tape drive, library and registration was visible but we were unable to move the tapes because the check mark in RED circle in my attached snapshot was not visible. Please let us know if we missed some steps.

I guess the check mark belongs to the 'Ready' column. Of course if the jukebox is not present and ready you will not be able to move a tape.
- Is it attached at all?
- Is it online?
- Does it have the same SCSI ID?
- What does 'inquire' report?
Remember that you can fake NW and create a device/jukebox which must not necessarily be present.

What you just did is on a different hardware on a different server. the JB definition that contains in you res was for the old backup server. now do the following.
- Confirm that the library and drives are connected and configured on the OS, using Device management.
- Run the command "inquire" and ensure that all the connected Auutochanger and drives are listed with all the details displayed ed : serial number, drive name.
- Delete the existing configuration of the library and all the tape devices. You might have to remove them from the pool configuration first.
- Reconfigure using the NMC or run jbconfig.
- Test library operations like mount and unmount,
