Can`t configure Networker to backup VM to AFTD device
Hi!
In laboratory i`trying to model backup VM from a VMware 6.5 cluster through vproxy to AFTD device created on different machine with Linux local disk.
But in policy i can`t select pool other than Defaul DD Pool.
In this infrastructure i don`t have any DD now and in the future.
The question is: what i`m doing wrong ??? Will this config work in any way ??
I found and article NetWorker : Cannot select a AFTD device for vProxy backups (only Data Domain devices appear in list)
but it confusing me.
Thank you in advance.

Please correct me if I wrong:
- AFTD device can be used only to file system level/type of backups
- for VM backup i`m forced to use DataDomain and this the only option?
Or maybe there is another way to backup VM without DataDomain with the Networker as a Backup SW?

What the article says is that you must configure & label a DD boost device/type: data domain.
An AFTD is incompatible with this kind of backups.

For vmaware backups the only destination for backup is Data Domain.

Are You sure?
S3 or Tape devices won`t work ?
The only and exclusive destination type for VMW VM backups is DataDomain ?

For VMware backup using vProxy only supports Data Domain Boost Device as a target. That's why you cannot select an AFTD device related pool to run backups.

If you want to backup klient using vproxy and incr for ever, you have to have ddboost device as a destination for backup. If you will backup client using agent or VADP backup, you can use disk or tape as a destinatination. Be aware, that you can not backup exchange directly to tape using networker 9.x.

As others have rightly mentioned, vProxy backup needs a DD. In your case you can install a DDVE and continue working, find more information on DDVE in here https://www.emc.com/collateral/TechnicalDocument/docu78747.pdf
