Clone to a larger capacity tape while retainig the unused space on the tape for regular backups?
Hi,
Is it possible to, for example, clone LTO3 tapes to LTO5 tapes and still use the unused capacity on the LTO5 for regular backups?

Hi Phil,
For cloning you need to label a tape to the clone pool. One it is labeled to the clone pool, networker will use that volume only for cloning.

Thanks Arun.
Assume that I have 3 lto3, can I clone them to a single lto5 or is the cloning process a one to one operation?

I asked the question to an EMC engineer (the customer needed an urgent answer) and the person I talked to confirmed it is a one to one operation. Thanks Arun for your feedback!

Hi Phil,
Yes you can, but I am not sure about the capacity if 3 LTO3 data will fit in a LTO5.
Arun.
