The very first time I saw "Legato" I was actually in Switzerland at a partner conference put on by a company called "Dicom" (I didn't work for the Legato or EMC then).  When I did start working with Legato in late 2000 it was soon after NetWorker 6.0 was released and subsequently I heard how much happier customers were with it versus the 5.x series.

Eric, Sunman has you beat!  Anyone else?  Since it is Friday morning and I'd like to hear from others- how about a contest? Whoever posts their length of time using NetWorker and the version that they started on (as Sunman did above) by Tuesday morning (10/6)- the person that has been using NetWorker the longest can have their pick of any one of these lovely gifts from my shelf.  These are all new, never been used!

From left to right-

  1. Neat stainless water bottle in Royal Blue!
  2. 2g memory stick
  3. Sports water bottle

Let's hear it!

PS: EMCrs can post- but they won't win

Suman indeed set the bar pretty high and has me well and truly beaten...

My baptism was with good old version 5.5.1 way back in 1999

I, too, have been using Networker since the early 90's, but don't remember the version...

I do remember that it was command line controlled - no GUI's !!!

Ha. Those were the days. I wasn't involved with NetWorker at the time, but was running *nix only. I remember being in an HPUX training once and cracking up  when a bunch of Unix sysadmins got really mad just about walked out when the instructor started in on how to use SAM.

Back to earlier 1999, my manager came to me one day and told me to take the ownership of NetWorker (version 4 something), because the guy who managed the product left, we had a pretty large backup job pool, and a lot failed jobs, with only admin guide and a brave heart, took me a month learnt and tuned the product, back then never thought that I will walk with this product for years from Cananda to United State and to Asia.

Interesting to see how many people still in the NetWorker game even after som many years.

Also started of June 1994 w SUN branded NetWorker(SOLSTICE). From what I recall Legato was about to

ship 4.2, but SUN was lagging behind among versions. Can't recall the version, but I do have

a Windows installation floppy disk (3,5inch) still i my drawer somewhere. Will try to post a picture so that you can really feel the

"wave" from the prehistoric era....

Greetings from Sweden.

PS This is my first go on postings in this forum, tried to get it right. DS

Been using networker for about a year starting ith 7.4.2 now on 7.5.1 with SAP, SQL, and Exchange Modules. Works well in our enviornment and getting ready to deploy a mixed enviornment that will include avamar for our remote sites and our WIN/LINtel enviornments.

I was using 8mm tapes on Legato Networker 4.x on Solaris back in 1995 or so... we spec'd and bought a brand spankin'

new Sun Sparc 10 to replace our Sparc 2 and hooked up the 8-slot jukebox to it.  Good stuff.

I've been working with NetWorker since 1998/1999 with late version 4.x and the first releases of NetWorker 5.
