Converting from DL3D VTL to Data Domain using File Shares
Ok, so at first glance this seems to be pretty straight forward, but my boss wants me to achieve a few things in the process of conversion.
So at first I thought I would just do a whole bunch of clones and I have begun to look at writing some scripts(in windows grrr) to send it to the DD.
But my boss wants me also fix some retentions.
The previous admin did all the major retentions at the Media level. Since we are now doing retentions lower in the Savesets I'm worried, and think I need to set new retentions there. Does anyone know of any gotcha's??
In the past with Legal holds and all, I just kept the media and didn't relabel it. Does the networker just expire and delete the savesets with AFT's?? If so is there anyway to keep them?
Overall I think I'm going to like this whole file share backups, it's just different.

Hi,
Be careful with the AFTD's - the data will be removed when it has passed its retention date. It's not like tape - the actual data will be gone for each Saveset once the nsrim process registers that it has passed its retention date. For keeping data forever, look into the 'Archiving' section of the Administration Guide which is probably what you will need. The savesets you have will already have retention dates which you can query with:
mminfo -q ssid=[ssid] -r ssid,name,clretent,ssretent,volretent
It's the 'clretent' value which will give you the retention date for this instance of the saveset (if there is no clones involved, the ssretent will be the same date). You can change this retention date manually using the nsrmm command - like nsrmm -S [ssid] -e [date].
Have fun and let us know if you come across anything interesting
