Ideally you should go through the NDMP support chapter of the admin guide. The steps to configure an NDMP backup would be:
1. Create a group for the backup. 2. Create the desired schedule for it and use it on the group or client. 3. Create a media pool for NDMP backups and select the above group. 4. Create a client resource with the hostname of your NAS box.
Please ensure that: Client Hostname should be the hostname of NAS appliance Save set: /vol, /vol0 etc. Backup Command: nsrndmp_save ¿M ¿T dump. Enable NDMP in Client Resource. In Application Attributes: DIRECT=y, HIST=y, UPDATE=y
Label a few volumes based on your requirement and media type for 2 TB. For backing up indexes, create another pool withsave set INDEX: & bootstrap. Select the above group in this pool and label a volume for this. Indexes cannot be saved on the NDMP volumes.
how to label Label a few volumes based on the requirement and media type for 2 TB -----> this could not be understand
can you please give some more insight. Because when we click label we get selected slot, slot list, then automatic selection and target media pool, then options: Promt and Allow are there only....
If you want both the type of backups on same set of media, create a single pool and label a volume for that pool. Select the pool when you label the volumes. Apply the single schedule on the group or the client.
In case you want them on separate set of media, create two schedules, apply them on two different groups. Each group should have its own pool and then label the volumes in each pool selecting the respective pool while labelling them. If you have more question on this, open a new thread.
Great info!! Can you also mention the steps to perfom a Local backup using an NDMP Tape Server. We have a Celerra and I would like to configure the backup to go directly from the Celerra to the tape library. I would totally like to avoid the backup over the LAN. Couple of things that I would like to know.
1) Do I have to install any s/w on the tape server?
2) Will the tape drive have to be dedicated NDMP drives?
3) Any particular configuration changes that I will have to do differently?
