Data Domain Client Direct process could not obtain the password

Hello Fellow DP Experts,

        Intermediately I have backup failures on vm image level backups failing with the error "Data Domain Client Direct process could not obtain the password". Keep in mind that the filesystem backup to the same DD works just fine, the problem goes away automatically after a while too, but it does repeats much often specially during the scheduled backups run.


NetWorker server : 9.1.1.5

NetWorker server OS : RHEL 7.4

VCenter version : 6.0.0

NvProxy : 2.1-32_1 and 2.0.2-11_1

VM OS : Linux and Windows

DD OS : 6.0.


Has anyone else experienced this ?

Well, the issue seem to be with one of the dd devices. A lot of errors - Unable to remove auxiliary files .....Disabled this device and the backups started running fine.

Where did you see that?

I have recursively looked throughout all the files in /nsr/logs but I did not find any hit.

In the failed saveset details on the NMC. This error is nowhere else to be found.

I am guessing this is being caused due to some intermediate network issue but am not able to prove this theory.
