Not sure if you still have this issue but this is a known issue with NetWorker 8.1.1 which is fixed in 8.2.
Workaround to get the checkpoints backed up to DD is to add a backup action in the policy (see screenshot). You will need to assign a VM to this policy to work of course.

Hi,
A late response, but Nick is absolutley right, it does work with Networker 8.2.
But also, we faced a issue with DDOS, there is a check that fails if you run
many DDBoost connections on one unit. Upgrading DDOS to 5.4.2.1 solved the problem.

Also make sure nsrexecd is running on ebr. I found that sometimes the process just dies.
