EBS 7.4.3 and SAMFS configuration

Question

Hello, I was curious if anyone could help with an issue that a customer of mine reported: 'We are currently using Legato(EBS) to back its data up to a large SAM/QFS file system. How do I make Legato delete the files when they are expired. It is correctly marking the files as not needed but it won't clear them from my disk. We also have an instance of 7.2.2 that we are migrating from and the way it works even though the files are marked for recycling it won't do it until it needs the space. So how do I get around this. It seems that there would be some way for the Legato (EBS) software would finish the step. It knows they are expired but it won't delete them unless it needs the space. If there were a way for it to just delete the files when it marks them for recycling to finish the process that would be ideal. We don't want to have to write a customized script to make Legato (EBS) do what it should do for us.' I was curious why SAMFS was being used instead of the EBS archiving/staging. The customer prefers the redundancy of having SAMFS is play as well. So, I was curious if anyone knew an an EBS tunable setting that would accomplish this desired file removal. Thanks,

Networker will reuse the media as and when it needs to after being marked recyclable - passing the retention time does not mean it is automatically deleted from the system. However if you have disk configured to be used as an advanced file type device this will automatically be deleted at the next run of the nsrim process (runs on startup, from the command line and every 24 hours since the last run) - if this is the case run nsrim -V volumename from the command line.
