Commvault and Networker are different backup software products and will be incompatible. You will need to uninstall the Networker agent and install the Commvault Informix iDataAgent - there is some details here
- I would assume this is licensable functionality so you will need to contact your account manager who should be able to tell you where to download the agent.
However, you may wish to consider getting rid of the entire Commvault system and installing a superior backup product like EMC Networker.
Both Simpana and NetWorker have their own tooling - so called online modules - to perform online database backups using database API (in this case Informix and onbar). In NW world, you would use NMDA module nowadays. Compatibility can be found on so called compatibility list through Powerlink (Home->Support->Interoperability and Product Lifecycle Information->Compatibility Guides).
As mentioned by Hrvoje, you have to use the NetWorker Module for Databases & Applications (NMDA) , the version that supports Informix 11.7 is the NMDA 1.2 , which can be downloaded from the Powerlink as well as its guides and manuals.
Well the thing is that i only install the Commvault Simpana Informix iDataAgent on the machine to be able to backup my informix instance through simpana software using the informix agent. The backup software application that my company uses is Commvault Simpana version 9.
Simpana Informix agent is using the onbar command to backup the instance. And it seems onbar command automatically installs or using the NetWorker software for some reason.
The reason i made that question is just for security purposes only. Because it seems that the current NetWorker that is being used by onbar is vulnerable to attacks and it is recommended to me to install the NetWorker version 7.2 to fix the problem. But i dont know if this version would be compatible with my Simpana Informix iDataAgent.
It seems like you want to use Commvault to backup your Informix database, so you should consult Commvault about what is needed. I don't know Commvault, but I would be very surprised if it needs NetWorker for anything. I think what you need to do is uninstall the NetWorker client and use Commvault's documented procedures to install Commvault and hook it up to informix.
but also i cannot locate the NetWorker software on my server. i have an AIX 6.1 machine and when i run lslpp -l command to see the softwares installed on my machine i cannot locate EMC NetWorker. How can i trace it?

i checked the compatibility guides from powerlink but the only results i get is about DiskXtender.
i just want to check if commvault simpana informix data agents are compatible with NetWorker 7.2.
is there any other link that has detailed compatibility guide just for NetWorker?
Thank you

Hi Tuccero,
I think you are trying to use 2 agents against the same Informix.
Let's clarify. If you are using Commvault software, why would you like to use any other software?
If you want to use NetWorker (in this case NMDA), why would you like to use any other software?
As stated in previous posts, each software has it's own module to backup Informix, so I don't really understand the question.
For Informix sitting on AIX you should install latest NetWorker client version and then, on top of it you should install NMDA to backup Informix.
Hope this helps to clarify.
Thank you.
Carlos.
