Encryption of NDMP data

Question

I am trying to encrypt my NDMP data, but it appears not to be working. This is what I have done: I set a datazone pass phrase and created a directive using the aes command. I configured our SAN client in Networker to use the encryption directive. The backup completed normally. I then removed the pass phrase leaving it blank. From the backup server, I used Networker Uuser to restore the data back to the SAN. It restored fine and I could open the restored data. When I do this with one of our windows clients, I encrypts it fine and if I remove the pass phrase, I get no decryption key available and I cannot open the restored data because it is encrypted. I am wondering if NDMP data can be encyrpted at all?

aes works with UNIX and Windows file systems and relies on some client end work - none of those can be applied to NDMP clients so in short it is not supported with filer backup.

When you encrypt data with Networker, it's up to NW clients to encrypt data .. when you deal with NDMP, the appliance behaves like both a storage node (node+client) at the same time. I don't really know if an NDMP node supports encryption at all .. More comments are welcome on the subject
