There is a problem with the I/O path with your tape device. This could be a SCSI reset (though that is generally mentioned in the error), faulty drivers for the tape device or the interface card (SCSI/FC) or a faulty drive. You should remove and reinstall all device drivers for the interface card and the tape drive and if this does not help, get the drive replaced. IF using FC, ensure persistent binding is ON.

DO the hard reset of the drives if NO backup running and mount / unmount the tapes to the drives.

and DO the test backup.

If none of this work. Try to get the drives replaced.

The Windows SYSTEM event log will provide some additional clues, if the device driver is smart enough to log meaningful data.

Match the times of the I/O errors in the daemon.log  to the times of events in the SYSTEM event log.

If this is a SAN environment, the SAN Switch logs are often useful.

Do you get these only for Tape0 or do you get it for other drives too?

The server has only one Tape drive in enclosure. I am trying to perform the steps that are mentioned in al above posts.

It seems to me that the error is about a particular volume - so my idea is if this hasn't been resolved:

  1. NetWorker software is configured to use a different pool than the one specified to
    perform the backup operation.
  2. The pools are not synchronized.

Resolution

  1. Look at the message file to determine what happened before this error appeared
    and correct any problems found.
  2. Use NetWorker Console to correctly configure the pools.
  3. Ensure that there are labeled tapes available for each configured pool.
