How can i add a netware client?

Hi everyone

I'm  trying to add a server Netware 6.0 sp5 as a client. But after loading the module  networkr.nlm in the netware server when I try to add it to the client "Client  Backup Configuration" in Legato Networker server, I get the message:  "Client does not support remote operation. "

How Can I add a Netware server the client in Networker?

Hi Sarah,

I have the following procedure for an older NW client for Netware installation:

1.- Install client
2.- Install patches LGTpa88764 and LGTpa89631
3.- Install patch for Novell Netware 6.5 SP5 -> OES SP2 NW6.5 SP5 Update 1
4.- Modify SMSSTART.NCF to load TSAFS.NLM with option /NoCachingMode (then, restart client)
5.- Add client itself and Networker Server in SYS:/ETC/HOSTS

6.- Add short and FQDN of client in  /etc/hosts of Networker server.
7.- Add NW server in SYS:/NSR/RES/SERVERS. Restart NSREXECD.NLM
8.- Add client in NMC with short name. Add FQDN in Alias field.
9.- On client configuration, fill "Remote User" and "Password" fields (need to run save and savefs)
11.- Start client (LOAD NETWORKR), press F2 and specify NW server IP
12.- Add user nobody@"client" to group "Netware Users" with permissions to backup local data

I don't remember any other details about it. I hope these can be useful to you.

Hi Sarah!

The  "Client does not support remote operation." is usually seen when the version of the Networker client software is not compatable with the Networker Server vesion.

In Powerlink (powerlink.emc.com), seach support, I entered the phrase Client does not support remote operation. The first respone was NetWorker Client Configuration Wizard cannot detect the client (esg103638). This is for NetWorker 7.5, but I believe the principle applies to all versions over 7.3.

I would verify that versions are compatible and correct them as needed. The applications are available for download from Powerlink if needed. Look under under Support > Software Downloads and Licensing > Downloads J-O > NetWorker. Scroll down to your version to select the correct one.

If this does not reolve the issue, please let us know so we can look into it further for you.

Hi Mark,

NW 7.2.1 is the only available version for Netware. Can´t be configured thru the wizard, obviously.

Polska22, Thanks!!! You really helped me a lot with your steps, I added the client and started a manual backup. However, the backup job failed and also caused the server instability. (the process brought down novell server). I found this message in abend log: "The CPU encountered a problem executing code in SERVER.NLM.  The problem may be in that module or in data passed to that module by a process owned by SAVE.NLM."

Is there any possibility to run this backup job without causing this instability in Novell Server ??

Hi Sarah,

I've found the following procedure in Powerlink:

1) Ensure that the RPCBSTU.NLM is Netware's NOT from Legato; rename ours and be sure the modules is from Novell.

2) Also be sure that at the end of the autoexec.ncf the line reads "networkr.ncf" NOT just "networkr"

3) Install the "tsa5up9.exe" available from Novell web site.

4) Run the scheduled (server-initiated) backup again and it should now complete successfully.

The solution (esg57881) mentioning RPCBSTU.NLM, not SAVE.NLM. But I think that can be useful, too.

Unfortunately, I haven't a Novell server in my environment today to obtain more info.

Claudio
