You can use both methods, roll-back restore and roll-forward restore.
In Transaction Log File Replay window, ensure that Include existing logs (Roll-back recovery) is NOT selected. This is NOT the default setting, but it may have been changed if the previous recovery was a point-in-time recovery.
If you don't have that option enabled there is something strange.
Could you please try this method and if it doesn't work attach screenshots of every single step you follow?
1.- Restore the DB where that MB is stored into an RDB.
2.- Perform a granular restore within that RDB to browse the MB you want to browse and then select the sent items folder.
I would suggest you to take a look at the documentation to have all requirements and pre-requisites in place, specially when it comes to permissions.
You also need to have MAPI/CDO installed, otherwise you won't be able to browse the content of the RDB.
I would recommend as well to install NMM Config Checker, this toll will help you to identify the requirements and will let you know if you are missing any setting, configuration, patch etc.
The point also is that depends how Exchange is configured. If there is any kind of auto-archive system in place then you will probably need to restore more than one RDB, if not then should be enough just to restore the DB from the date you want to restore. Let's say you want to restore sent items from 1st of January to 1st of May. Then you only need to restore the DB from the latest full backup on the 1st of may (or the date closer to that day) and then perform a granular restore.

Hi Carlos,
Thanks for your respond.I have successfully restore a test of my email
using the RDB.The problem that I face is that when I'm restoring a backup
on 17 of april, its restore the email for me from 8th of April until 25th
of April. It is because the NMM 2.3 did not support roll backup recovery
but instead its support roll forward recovery?
Plus on recover options for logs under transaction log files replay, I
could only see the option roll forward recovery and point in time
recovery.
Thanks
