How to backup IBM MQ and Oracle instance in a consistent way
Hello,
I'm not a Networker expert, but know a lot of backup concepts as a whole. Our collegues asked backup team (i.e. us) no design and implemet a backup strategy for custom-made environment that comprises a server running IBM WebSphere MQ and another server that runs Oracle 11 instance. Information flow looks as follows: messages go through IBM MQ to Oracle instance. Timing is extremely important: ideally first we should backup MQ queue and just after that launch Oracle backup. Our current approach is to somehow freeze IBM MQ, backup it then thaw MQ and finally backup Oracle databse. I know that freezing and thawing of MQ might be implemented as pre and post scripts for a Networker group, but how we implement Oracle backup that should immediately follow MQ backup is a dilemma for us. We only thing we could think of is a shell script that first runs "MQ" group backup and then launches "Oracle" group backup.
Another approach I incline to is a hardware based clones, pair etc. Supposed we've got a pair for MQ and another one for Oracle. First we freeze MQ and say "begin backup" to Oracle next we split pairs for MQ and Oracle. After that we thaw MQ and say "end backup' to Oracle instance. At this phase we made a backup from cloned volumes (S-Vols of pairs), Once backup is finished we resync our pairs
I'd be very appreciated if anyone could suggest a better solution.

Hi,
I think what you need here is probe-based backups. This will allow you to run the second backup only after a certain condition (defined by you) is met.
Look in the NetWorker Administration Guide for probe-based backups and it will give you full details.
