How to configure VBA (Networker VMware Protection) with mulitple NEtwork interface

Hi,

We are trying to configure the VBA appliance with 2 Network Card:

- First one get an access to networker server, vcenter, proxies, ESX

- Second one have an access to our Data Domain device.

It' seem than all VBA process are running only on the first Network card. But is there a way to write the data down to the data Domain through a second Network Card (in a dedicated ddboost VLAN).

Many thanks for your help.

Hi,

Maybe I'm wrong but if you use VBA and DD, you will use DDBoost, so transfer will occur between ESX and DD and not via VBA.

Is your DD accessible to ESX servers ?

Well,

It looks than everything is working fine, when our VBA and External proxy get an access to the Data Domain through a dedicated interface. Backup data seem to go through the VBA appliance or External Proxy.

Cheers

Greg,

Are you sure that data flow go through your proxies ?

f@brice:

Why should the backup stream occur between ESX and DD?

When VBA is running VMware backup it´s talking to VCenter to create a snapshot and afterwards it will be mounted via hotadd mode on the VBA or the external proxies.

Afterwards VBA or the Proxy talks with Data Domain to send only unique segments which are unknown to DD.

ESX and Data Domain will only talk directly when Instant Access is used, as VBA will create and register a NFS Datastore in VCenter and it´s needed in order to do VMotion from DD to a real datastore.

Hope that helps,

Regards,

Andi
