How to configure VCB on Networker 7.6 ?

Question

Hi, does anyone have a step-by-step guide to configure VCB on Networker 7.6? I've read serevarl docs form powerlink and instal and admin guides for Networker 7.6 but all of them are confused and at the end doesen't work. Can any one help me with this? Thanks a lot. -- Victor

If you have not downloaded NetWorker Procedure Generator you can download it from Powerlink by navigating to:

Home > Support > Product and Diagnostic Tools > Procedure Generators > NetWorker Procedure Generator

NetWorker Procedure Generator lays out how to configure a vcb backup when virtual centre is used/not used as well as when the VC is 32bit or 64 bit. It also provides details on preconfiguration requirements (including firewall), licensing information and limitations.

Navigate to:

"Configuration -> VM Operations -> Configure VCB backup with NetWorker 7.6" once you’ve launched NPG.

The first problem is that the networker documentation is not enough precised to understand. When you read it you don't understand if you need to configurate the VCB proxy or create a new client with the configuration. Also the explantion to configure from Configuration -> Virtualization right click on the VM is not explained on th networker documentation.

I you use these two docs generated with the NPG you will be able to do it:

- configure VM client for vcb backups when VC used.doc

- configure VM Proxy client for vcb backups.doc

I hope this info will be usefull. If no, please let me know.

In the Demo and in other places I read, I looks like the ESX server is 3.5. Will this work with 4.0. I need to know for work. I'm being hit with "Can you start backing up this virtual machine like yesterday?. I started backing up using Guest backup. Now today I here we have 5 more that are ready for next week. They are all Linux OS. I will need to purchase more clients. or up grade to 7.6 from 7.5.2 because it looks like from the demo that the module wouldn't need to be purchased anymore.to backup the Proxy host. Do I understand this correctly? or will I still need more client licenses too?? I'm all out..I just used my last one.

At work here, they don't even know if they have VCB installed or not. I was kept out of the loop with VMware at work but now I need to do backups.
