Issue while adding Netapp(cluster mode) with Networker 8.1

Hi

I am facing an issue while configuring  for integrating Networker with Netapp cluster mode for NDMP backups .

Data ONTAP version is Cluster DATA ONTAP NetApp Release 8.2.3P2 Cluster-Mode

Networker version is 8.1 . All NDMP services are running on the cluster . Whenever i try to authenticate Netapp box by adding it as a NDMP client , it fails to go ahead . I haven't added this Netapp box as storage node till now . I am just configuring the backup

Also i have a doubt that whether Data ONTAP version(NetApp Release 8.2.3P2 Cluster-Mode) is compatible with Networker 8.1 . Please let me know if any document have information on this compatibility information .

Please let me know if anything can be done further on this .Any help would be appreciable .

Kind Regards

Looks like ONTAP version and NetWorker version are compatible,

Check if the port 10000 is blocked?

I have an open case with EMC support on this issue. We added a new 8.3 Netapp cluster to our network, and I need to setup (ndmp) tape backups of it before they can migrate the volumes from the old 7-mode nodes. Networker 8.2 is required to connect to cluster netapp because of the cluster aware extensions. Support told there is a known issue with this version of Networker in discovering Netapp clustered ndmp drives, in that the software thinks it needs storage node licenses to discover the drives even if their are available NDMP licenses. the support had to keep feeding me temp storage node licenses (4x) until I was able to discover the 2x NDMP drives and get them added to the jukebox config.

i'm trying to use the wizard under NAS to get it to connect to the new new cluster and add the volumes but I'm unable to use the cluster name to backup the volumes. It wouldn't make sense to specify the actual node names, because the volumes could move between nodes in the cluster

one other big issue with upgrading to v8.2.1 of networker from v8.1.1.4, is that I'm having NDMP connectivity issues to the working NDMP drives on our 7-mode netapp nodes. They have been working in networker for almost 3 years now, no changes have been made to their config. But after the nw v8.2.1 upgrade I was receiving MOVE_TAPE NDMP errors on every backup. I deleted the ndmp volumes in networker and rediscovered them successfully in networker, but when I try to write to the tape on the 2nd (7-mode) node, I am not getting the "The NDMP connection is not successfully authorized on host" message.

leave it to EMC to break one thing when they bump up from 8.1 to 8.2

one other thing, networker 8.2 is required for netapp cDot 8.3 clusters.

you can use the inquire command from the cli of the networker server to make sure you are using the correct ndmp credentials of the ndmp drives

inquire -N -T

you will provide root as user and ndmp password

from working with support, there is a bug in v8.2 discovering ndmp drives from netapp, you will need 2x temp storage node licenses per drive from support in order to get them discovered and added to your jukebox

may I ask if your clustered NDMP backups are still working through networker?

I thought I had all my issues resolved, but have now found that I am only able to backup volumes that reside on the same physical node the cluster mgmt lif. If I try to backup volumes on the other node, networker reports the error:

NDMP Service Error: DATA: Operation terminated: Backup of non-local Volume '/ / ' not supported

the ndmp log reports errors:

CAB not negotiated

CAB unaware

my networker client is set to the cluster management LIF, and specify the saveset as / /

EMC support says they don't have the hardware to test this in their lab to troubleshoot, and netapp support is blaming networker

I've even upgraded our networker server from v8.2.1.2 to v8.2.1.4

Did anyone of u know when cDOT 8.3 will be officially supportet by EMC Networker (Version 8.2x or future 8.3.x ?)

By Netapp IMT the only combination by now is Networker 8 with cDot 8.2

Or is there any supportet Workaround for NDMP?
