License required for storage nodes in NDMP backup

Hi

It will be great if I can get you help & suggestions on below

In our Networker environment ,

We have 3 storage nodes + 1 backup server . We are using 3 storage nodes licenses with Base enabler .
1st storage node:Windows server 2008
2nd storage node :Netapp box configured for NDMP backup
3rd storage node :Netapp box configured for NDMP backup

We have 12 tape drives dynamically shared among all storage nodes .The netapp boxes are configured to take ndmp backups .
We need to add 2 more netapp boxes for ndmp backup in the environment . I want to understand what all licenses (no of sotrage node licneses & ndmp licenses) needs to be there so that these 12 drives can also be used 2 newly added netapp devices(for ndmp backups) as well .

NMDP connection license already includes storage node license.

Yes, that's how it worked in NW7 and I'm not aware of any changes in NW8.

Hi Hrvoje

Thanks for quick information . So what i understand is (Please correct me if I am wrong here) , kindly let me know if I add NDMP license to my Networker Network edition in NDMP backups so then I don’t need any further storage node licenses

(if I add netapp NDMP boxes where backups are going to shared DDS tape drives) .

Hi Hrvoje

I have an understanding that storage node licenses are added only if a new storage node is added or when total number of devices exceed the limit .Am i having a correct understanding on this . Secondly Hrvoje , i have 1 more doubt here

My old setup includes

12 drives with 2 NDMP with 1 storage node & 1 backup server with all tape drives dynamically shared , so total devices are 48 .

New setup

12 drives with 4 NDMP with 1 storage node & 1 backup server with all tape drives dynamically shared , so total devices are 72 .

So these 72 devices can work if i add 2 NDMP licenses or should i still add 1 storage node license here or 2 storage node licenses .

I really appreciate for your prompt help on this

Storage node license you use when you deploy new storage node.  It is true that license can be used for some other things like increasing server parallelism and similar, but that usually goes beyond the purpose of license.  I'm not sure about limits as far as number of devices goes.  With additional filers, you certainly need to add more NDMP connections.

Hi Hrvoje

Thank-you again for the information . I was out of city & so replying you late reply on this . I read in this  licensing of the storage nodes that for devices & parallelism as well storage node licenses work well when we need to increase the respective values .

NDMP licenses (that you highlighted in previous comments) is the one that will be great help for me .I am studying about it & seeing the possibilities how NDMP & storage licenses can be clubbed together to satisfy IT infrastructure needs .
