As you mention DD Boost and VTL in same sentence, I assume you run DDOS 5.3? Year ago (actually less) I tested DD Boost and VTL separately using 5.1.1 (soon to upgrade to 5.2.2.4) and I can get better usability using only DD Boost devices over IP. Since then, I dropped VTL. Tests are quite simple:
- run everything as it is for a week and compile running time table
- run everything on VTL and compile running time table
- run everything on DD Boost and compile running time table
Above assumes your cycle is 7 days. Each phase will have tests for backup and restore of course and based on clients, their volume and file system density, you can draw conclusions applicable to your environment.
Please consider moving this question as-is (no need to recreate) to the proper forum for maximum visibility. Questions written to the users' own "Discussions" space don't get the same amount of attention and questions can go unanswered for a long time.
