Manual backups and cloning

Does anyone know if it is possible to initiate cloning from a client side (manual) backup (and more importantly from an RMAN backup).  I have been told that something we have done (ie server side) has stopped cloning working but from what I can gather you would need some kind of server side way to initiate nsrclone afterwards.

Just to clarify too, these are backups not initiated by a group server side.

nsrclone command comes with client package so I see no issues why you should not be able to kick it from client.

Thanks Hrvoje, but it would still require some scripting to find ssid and to kick it off.  Our Oracle guys are convinced these backups were being cloned until I did something server side...

Ask them for a proof so that you can be convinced too.  With proof of that, you will figure out how it was done before. What they might have used is approach with RMAN where data is sent twice, each time to separate pool, and perhaps they called that backup cloning. Of course, it is also possible to schedule cloning on specific filter/query on server side so that RMAN backups can be trigerred from client and then cloning picks it up later depending on schedule.

I'm reasonably certain now that it wasn't working before and there was confusion with the Oracle team!  Right now I believe we have two options, either to use Scheduled Cloning from within the NMC (which we believe has caused failure of the Networker server on several occasions as well as hanging group based cloning on one occasion) or to go to script based cloning (probably the latter).
