NMC Desktop Icon

Greetings,

OS: Red Hat Enterprise V4
NW: 7.4.2
PC: Windows XP

I deleted the NMC Desktop Icon on my PC. I now have to connect to NMC thru the browser but the icon isn't recreated on my PC. Searched help and KB but can't find how to get that icon recreated.

Thanks,
Vic

If it is on the Programs list of Windows, you can right click there and select Send to-> Desktop (create shortcut).

You can also right click on the desktop and choose New->Shortcut. Type the URL in the field that asks for the file to create shortcut for and then type the title on the next screen and say FINISH.

Should be on the programs list.

Well it's not in the Programs list for some reason. Also, creating a shortcut and typing in the URL just starts the browser. There shortcut used to go directly to the login window. I believe it started Java that ran whatever. What has to be deleted so starting it from the browser will cause it to create the icons again.

Figured it out. Turned out someone else had the desktop icon so I could look at the target for the icon. It has to be:

"C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_10\bin\javaws.exe" http://host:9000/gconsole.jnlp

Created a shortcut with that target and it works. Picture isn't the same but I guess you can't have everything.

Even if it is not in your list of programs, it should show up in add / remove programs. You would need to uninstall it from the add / remove programs and then hit the url again. The desktop icon should then get recreated. In any case, if copying the link from the other comp works for you ... why mess around with something that is working :)

Hari,

Thank you so much. That did it. When I removed it with add/remove programs it asked whether to create the shortcut again and it created it with the proper icon.
