NMM 2.4, NMM 2.3 - sorting into pools (client properties)

In client backup properties can be pool selected and selection here should override any other pool criteria.

Pool - Media pool used for data target selection during scheduled backup of the save sets specified in this client. This attribute is supported on 7.6.1 or later clients. Backup may fail on older (pre-7.6.1) clients for non-NULL value. This pool selection overrides any other pool criteria associated with the group or save set for this client.

But this feature does not work with NMM and nsrsnap_vss_save command and savegroup must be associated with pool in media pool configuration.

What am I doing wrong? Should it work, or not? From my point of sight is Networker very inconsistent, for save it works, for MSSQL nsrsqlsv too, but NMM not.

Hello Martin,

You are right, the pool in NMM clients has to be left blank.

Please note that NMM backups are snapshot based so the pool has to be specified in the group, and not in the client, as PowerSnap will receive information about the pool to be used from the group configuration.

This is why with NMM doesn't work and it works fine with other modules, but because of the snapshots the pool has to be specified in the group, and not in the client besides, if you specify a pool in the client itself backup will fail with message indicating bad usage of the command nsrsnap_vss_save

Thank you.

Carlos.

Thank You for clarification Carlos.

And can You please explain the "Snapshot pool" in Savegroup resource? If I configure NMM backup, then data are directed into pool specifed in media pool resource - there must be group selected in "Data source".

But concurrently must be Snapshot pool in Save group resource configured (and Snapshot Policy). This snapshot pool is empty, no data, everything is landing into pool that has group selected in Data Source.

Can you explain why please? Thank You

Martin
