NetApp NDMP restore fails: Cannot create qtree
All,
Have NetApp filer backup'd using NetWorker 7.4.4.
The nsrndmp_save command completes successfully (using root account on the filer as ndmp user).
When trying to restore the data via either NetWorker user GUI and command line both report backup competed but unable to create qtree on filer.
Has anyone seen this before?
Thanks
IKP

NetApp have advised this has been seen with NetBackup in the past and that its a backup software issue!
EMC Support have webex'd on to the system and managed to get a recovery to work - but NOT to original location.
Further investigation, if the qtree is removed (delete and recreate the volume, or new volume) the recovery works OK
Have now a procedure to recover the data that details this.

We have been restoring data froma long time in NDMP boxes, with these errors. All our boxes are NetApp. Although we get this error, the restore completes successfully and data gets restored properly too...
I think its more like some kind of configuration, but we are still trying to find out where we missed it.

Here's why I ask. I see the error in your output:
RESTORE: LUN files can only be restored to qtree root directories
In searching articles for NetApp I found the following which seems to coincide with what you are experiencing:
Ndmpcopy ¿da root:netapp /vol/vol0/lun/test.lun 10.1.1.1:/vol/vol0/lun/test.lun
( lun files can only be restored to either root volume or qtree root directories )
( Also, when the lun is copied, it may not be full, so it my go fast while copying )
After this ¿ on destination :
Dest filer > reallocate start ¿o ¿n lunpath
Please let me know if I am on the right track.
Regards,
Rita
