As a long-term NetWorker user & consultant, I must say that I did find it very frustrating that Avamar got the full support first. There would have to be several orders of magnitude difference between the install bases of the two products, with NetWorker the clear leader. Logically more users would have had their usage requirements met by implementing this first in NetWorker and then adding to Avamar, rather than the reverse.
I agree with you that NetWorker's support for vStorage API is coming later than we would like... You probably already saw our official note on https://community.emc.com/message/457262#457262
That said, the team is currently full speed on integrating the VSphere API into NetWorker. Watch this space for more specifics on timing...
We are going to integrate the new version of Avamar in the upcoming release of NetWorker (Q3 2010).
