I would always install software with the required dependencies, hence using yum (or equivalent) is the way forward. Heck we even use yum by default on RHEL based NW servers and storage nodes as it simplifies installation, in case one might have an unresolved dependency.

Also I'd wanna know exactly which dependency it is stumbling about, to know what it is actually doing or even needing...
