Hi Kaz,

The manual backup works fine & the scheduled backups fail with "Probe job had unrecoverable failure(s)".

This could be communcation issue between server & client ,

1) ping

2) rpcinfo -p hostname ( from server specify clientname & viceversa )

3) add an entry in the hosts file with IP address , FQDN & shortname of the client & re-run the backups from the NMC.

Kaz,

As suggested there seems to be a communication fault.

In addition to the steps posted by Hari, say if there is a Firewall do make sure that the necessary ports are available bi-directionally.

Hi,

In addition to what Vipin and Hari have said here, also check the entries in the clients servers file. Ensure that the first entry in the servers file is the hostname of the NetWorker server.

Rovin,

Thank you for you time, I was wonder if you could be more descriptive on where to look.  I am under the impressionto check in the configuration button under clients. want to make sure I am looking in the correct area.

Hari,

i was able to ping both ways. I also added the info to the hosts files.  not sure what I am looking for when I use the command rpcinfo -p hostname.  If you could describe for me I would appreciate it.

Thank you for the assistance

Kaz,

   1) Run rpcinfo -p client_name ( from the server ) & rpcinfo -p server_name ( from client ).

   2) run telnet client_name 7937 to 7940 ( run the command from the server , This confirms whether it is able to communicate to nsrexecd ports.)

   3) Add the IP address & fqdn & shortname of the client on the Aliases filed on the client properties.

   4) If the client is of windows , check for the firewall settings & raise a exception from 7937-7940 ( both on TCP & UDP Ports ).

Kaz,

We faced the same problem in couple of our new servers relased for testing.

When backup was configured and tested it failed with error"Probe job had unrecoverable failure(s), this job is being abandoned" .

Troubleshooting steps,

From client Check #rpcinfo -p

& From Networker server check #rpcinfo -p

If fails make the entry of IP, FQDN & shortname in /etc/hosts of client. Then check rpcinfo -p

If rpcinfo works and still backup fails,

chk forward & reverse nslookup to Networker server,

Also check nslookup localhost...if  that fails confirm its a server misconfiguration.

Get this fixed by server admin & trigger the backup,,,it completes successfully.
