Networker 8.0

Are there any best practices/recommendations for moving the Networker Server to a Virtual Server running Windows 2008 R2.  I'm looking for memory, cpu, storage recommendations and the correct upgrade path to decommission the current Server.  We are currently on Networker 8.0.

Hi Ron,

The best supported procedures for upgrading you can find it in the NetWorker Procedure Generator, which can be downloaded from the Powerlink, from this path:

> Support > Product and Diagnostic Tools > Procedure Generators > NetWorker Procedure Generator

Once you download it and update the repository, you will find a section called Updating NetWorker, you just specify what you wanna do and a document will be generated with the recommended/best practice upgrading procedures.

Hope this helps,

Running backup server on VM is still something I do not see as an option as backup applications are rather IO intensive. Of course, with NW8 this may change if you would use DD+Boost+Direct save as then only load would made by metadata path. Still, if this would be rather busy environment, I would go for physical machine instead.
