HI,

We faced the same issue and was asked by support to downgrade to 8.2.2.2

After few days , Support told us to upgrade it to 8.2.2.3 and apply an hot fix , which resolved the issue.

Correct. I created the client resource using the console setup menu.

Wasn't client direct checkmark triggering -a option in the past?  Check it's status in client resource and if unchecked, check it.

Hi @Wayne,

Please check if the nsrexecd and the gstd are both running under the same user name.

Hrvoje, I'm not sure I see the relevance of that, but I have the following configured:

Backup renamed dirs - no

Client direct - Yes

Data Domain / IP - Yes

Ok, I will open a case with support. And its on the same server as NW server. Its a minor issue anyway. Thanks!

I turned off the DD setting and ran it again. Still get:

24050:savepsm: FAILED HY000 -697 [Sybase][ODBC Driver][SQL Anywhere]Error during backup/restore: XBSA-1.0.1 8.2.2.3.Build.958 5608

Mon Jan 25 10:50:01 2016 _nwbsa_is_retryable_error: received a network error (Severity 5 Number 13): Permission denied

January 25th, 2016 07:00

Correct. I have a separate job that backs up the filesystem, including the client index dirs and bootstrap succeeds as well. It's just not able to access a file it seems (I'm guessing) during the console backup.

January 25th, 2016 07:00

Ok, so you think the "a" switch may be somehow causing the permission denied?

January 25th, 2016 07:00

Yes, I found that a few minutes ago.Box was checked before my last attempt and still failed.

Check also https://support.emc.com/kb/169427

-a together with -o   are returned when backup renamed directories is checked in the client properties

-a is returned when the client direct attribute is disabled on the client properties

-a is returned when the 'Data Domain backup' attribute is selected on the client properties

Relevance is that any of these may trigger -a switch which savepsm might not understand according to article.  The only way to check it is to test it to see how relevant to your issue it is.

And, normal filesystem backups are working without any issues for the NMC server, in this case your backup server ?
