Networker Data domain : Cloning to Tape -- Sooo Slow !!
I am trying to clone my backup in Data Domain ( DD) to FC Tape Library / AFTD -local , but its extremely slow .
I see speeds of 5-10 MB/s (MAX)
Ruled out Network Congestion :
Copied files from DD to networker local disk and got speed of 60 MB/s
Ruled out Tape Library Issues:
Normal backups happen to tape library @ 70-80 MB/s
Issue between Networker & DD
Now I tried to backup data from DD to AFTD local ,since this operation is similar to cloning ( ie Read from DD ; write to networker device ) . speeds were disappointing of 6 MB/s
Is there some performance tuning that needs to be done on Networker - DD to get better speeds ..?

Seems to suggest that read operation from DD to backup server is slow (DD->TCP->bck_server). Did you try to hook device somewhere else and retest it?

I had tried the " Read operation from DD to backup server " .
Copied files from DD to networker local disk and got speed of 60 MB/s .
Something between networker App & DD .. ?

As I said, try to hook the device(s) to another host and see what speed you get. Which block size do you use for transfers?

Tried that .. did a copy from DD to another server got transfer speed of 50-65 MB/s . I am doing normal windows copy of a 3 GB file from DD to server , so i guess the transfer block size is 4K windows default .

- I was referring to NW - to transfer device to remote storage node and test speed there
- block size you see in device properties of NW

Thanks Hrvoje , Hooked up the DD to another storage node and did backup ,got better speeds close to 40-50 MB/s , block size 128K .
So this points at an issue at the networker storage node . But , i cannot understand is
when i copy the files from DD to netw server i get speed of 60 MB/s ,but a backup in from DD to netw server drops to 5 MB/s .

It might be something with network settings on the node or switch port which is causing it - there is no easy way to say that. For DDBoost I use 512K, but this may or may not be your cup of tea. With AFTD I guess 256KB should be ok (I believe I used that one before with AFTD). Still, I suspect that NIC setting might be related and perhaps double checked just to exclude any potential possibility.
