Networker Exchange Database restore....should I be this uncomfortable?
NetWorker 8.2.3 running on Windows 2012r2
NMM version 8.2.1 running on Windows 2008r2 Exchange Server 2010
Hello all,
I've been using Networker for a while now, but up until now, haven't needed to perform a database restore. We have always used Barracuda Archiver when needing to perform email restores, so I have only ever backed up Exchange at the database level, and never used any sort of granular recovery backups. We do run a DAG configuration on two servers, with replication servers at each of our two datacenters. So, we have an active/passive situation with our DAG. The recoverable database in the NMM shows that the database that I need to restore is in a "passive" state.
Im going through the NMM Admin guide, but Im not getting any warm fuzzies from it. I'm quite comfortable to restore any other data in our environment, but not Exchange databases. I do not like terms such as “unmount the database” and “turn off database copy” and told to select “this database can be overwritten by a restore", etc.
The reason for all of this is that our Barracuda archiver is permanently damaged, and of course, someone has now deleted a mailbox subfolder (Ive been through all of the Outlook/exchange tricks to try to restore it). So, I have to restore the full database to a different folder on the exchange server, mount it, access it, and locate the needed emails from that database. I guess what I'm getting at is, will there be interruption to the flow of company email, in order to perform a database restore, bring it online, and pull email from it?
Thanks,
Todd

Actually, I got it all worked out. Recovered to another exchange server in our Environment that is non-production with no replicating databases.
