Networker and MS Exchange 2010 - problem

Hello all!

We have installed Exchange 2010 with DAG (few servers with Windows 2008 R2 - 64-bit) and EMC NetWorker 7.5.3.
Our Mailbox databases are each on separate volumes (One Database per Volume) mapped as NTFS paths, example C:\xchmbx\mbx01

On the same server there is also a public folder database on C:\xchmbx\PF, but this is a normal folder (not a mapped volume!).

During the backup the Public Folder Database is backed-up as expected, but backup of the Mailbox database returns 0 files, 0 bytes.

What could be be the problem? Mapped volumes? How can we solved backup? Solution might be NMM 2.3, but we are still waiting for it!)

On  Networker server --> NMC --> Client 'xchmbx3' (one of the MS Exchange 2010 nodes) --> Save Set

  APPLICATIONS:\Microsoft Exchange 2010\mbx01
  APPLICATIONS:\Microsoft Exchange 2010\PF3

Backup Command:
nsr_exchange2010 -vv

Thanks and Regards,

Drejc

Hi Drejc,

Have you checked permissions for the exchange backup account? Can you show us NW client apps logs?

Hi Claudio,

actually I found that the problem should be because of the 'Volume Mount Point'!

When we've moved Exchange database to local disk of the client xchmbx3, the backup works fine (as for 'PF3').

I've started backup of everything on  Volume Mount Point, for example:

Save Set:

  C:\xchmbx\mbx01

                       /\

                        |

                       +----- Volume Mount Point (mbx01)

Backup Comand: (none)

Result of the Save group is sucessfull, but no file (except index) is backuped! Networker shows the message:

savegrp: suppressed 2 lines of verbose output
Shadow Copy Saveset Directives line 0: illegal token
70330:save: ignored bad ASM argument '>>' in file Shadow Copy Saveset Directives
70335:save: ignoring illegal external ASM name `???"' in Shadow Copy Saveset Directives
70345:save: bad quoted dir, line 0 of Shadow Copy Saveset Directives
Shadow Copy Saveset Directives line 0: illegal token
70330:save: ignored bad ASM argument '>>' in file Shadow Copy Saveset Directives
70335:save: ignoring illegal external ASM name `???"' in Shadow Copy Saveset Directives

I've made another try with backup of just one file:

Save Set:

  C:\xchmbx\mbx01\mbx01.edb

                       /\

                        |

                       +----- Volume Mount Point (mbx01)

Backup Comand: (none)

Networker doesn't show upper message, but the result of the file is 0 bytes (file size is 140MB).

I've not used any Directive (try with NT directive return the same result)

Why isn't working on client with Windows 2008 R2 and "Volume Mount Point"?

I have the "Volume Mount Point" on client with Windows 2003 R2 and it works properly (?!).

Regards,

Andrej
