Networker device configuration on Linux

Hi,

We have configured zoning for a tape library and two tape drives on one of the Linux ( 2.6.32-279.el6.x86_64) storage nodes. But when I run "inquire" command, all 3 devices show as RAID Controller. I expect to see one Changer and two tape drives. Can some one help me with the detailed procedure to configure tape drives on Linux storage node? I am suing Networker 8.1 and configuring ADIC tape library.

Btw, those 3 device to me look the same (more like robotic of library).  Do you use IO blade and if yes did you configure host mapping on it?

If you run inquire -s, what do you see then?

Still waiting for inqure -s

Check S/N - it shows different S/N for changer while on Linux you see the same S/N (but I agree that WWPN is match so most likely this is presented or picked up differently on Linux). If you use IOblade, you should see it on i2000 web GUI under IO blade section.

As test, do also sjirdtag 2.2.0 (this should give low SCSI access to library from Linux host and inventory of it).

Hi Crvelin,

Thanks for your quick reply. Where should I check IO blade? Please find the same devices configured on the other Windows host shows correctly. We are in the process of moving them from Windows to Linux Storage node.

Sreekanth,

All 3 auto changers that the inquire is displaying are actually one. Run the following command and check if it lists more than one library. (you need lsscsi installed). This looks like a zoning issues, does this server have 3 or more FC ports on it ?

lsscsi -g

Hi Crazyrov,

I have managed to complete host mapping on library and I could see tape drives on storage node now, But they have /dev/sg device files instead of /dev/nst. How can I change device files from /dev/sg to /dev/nst in linux. please suggest.

You are using IBM drives which requires IBM drivers.  Install them first.

Sreekanth,

Refer the link - IBM Tape Device Drivers Installation and User's Guide - United States for getting the correct drives for your tapes drives.
