Networker v19.1.1.2 and windows 2008 client support

Hi,

at the beginning of this year I installed a new v19.1.1.2 server on a windows server.

This server has in charge the backup of clients typically in v8.x and v9.x ( pretty old, but the customer cannot move on newer systems due to specific application support ).

On the software compatibility list there is no windows server 2008 support listed. Up to december 17th 2019 I've seen still listed windows server 2008  R2.

As far as I know, Microsoft windows server 2008 and 2008 R2 are in end of life since 14 january 2020.

I would like to know which is the latest networker client version that "best fits" with windows server 2008.

May I use v19.1.1.2 (that seems to support  2008R2, same eol of 2008 ), or have I to use v9.x or have I to stay in v8.x ?

Any suggestion will be really appreciated.

My best regards

Pierpa

You should always stay with the last version mentioned in the Compatibility Guide for that OS version. NW is well aware that it needs to cope with older/legacy versions of client OS and their appropriate NW versions.

You may even test Windows 2008 with NW 19.1.1.2. It is not officially supported (read: tested and approved by Dell/EMC) but will most likely to work - at least for the 'normal' file backup & recovery methods. If there are problems, I expect them with the OS specific backup/recovery methods like for the bare metal recovery.
