Networker vs. Networker FastStart

Is there a difference?  I'm thinking Networker faststart is the same but all integrated into 1 package/download.  is that correct?

Once installed you are running a fully fledge NetWorker Network Edition. FastStart is designed for small to medium installations with automated tools to install and configure backups for SQL, EXCH, ORA on Windows and LINUX...plus more.

You can find more info at http://www.emc.com/products/detail/software/networker-fast-start.htm

Hi Tom,

You got it.  It  is intended to help smaller customers with smaller environments get started with  an enterprise backup application.  It automates installation including client  installation and configuration of a backup to disk target and initial  “groups”.  It is packaged  with support for a backup server, 20 total clients including 5 app servers  (choice of Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server, SharePoint or Oracle).  You can  literally get Fast Start installed in an afternoon.  We have a demo of an  installation on Youtube (7.5 SP1).  The data sheet is here.  You can also  request an evaluation of it from the Fast Start webpage.  Since Fast Start is  NetWorker, as your needs grow or change- you can add to it – including any of  the options available with “regular”  NetWorker.

I saw in your other post you are running 7.2.  Can you tell us a little bit about what you are currently protecting with 7.2?  What applications/databases, etc.?

Thanks,

Allan

Tom,

As Allan mentioned, NetWorker Fast Start as a single package offers up to five total of SQl, Exchange and/or Oracle. If you need more applications, you can always buy the modules a la carte.

You mentioned in the other thread that you are looking to upgrade your NetWorker environment from 7.2 to 7.6. Are you looking at NetWorker Fast Start for its ease of installation and ease of licensing?

Is it possible to upgrade from Networker FastStart 7.6.1 to a regular Networker 7.6.2 to be able to use VMware VADP backup ?

Tom - Yes. You can install NetWorker 7.6 SP2 and apply the FastStart enabler(s). It will work without issues and is supported.

Note: EMC Licensing policy will require you to add the Virtual Edition Client license(s) to enable operation of the VADP proxy server(s).

Best regards,

NetWorkerPM
