Networker with VBA Auto discovery function not working
Hi,
I am new to VBA and we have taken one of the existing project where we have Networker 8.1.1.3 with VBA to backup virtual machines. We were told that there is no manual intervention is required when VM is added/deleted as Networker should auto-disconver the changes in VCenter. But we found this funtionality is not working and some of the VM's are missing from backup. Can some one suggest where exactly I need to check to see if this functionality is enabled and why it is not working?
Thanks

Are you using policy based backups? If so, did VM admin assign policy for backup to VM?

Hi,
Thanks for your quick reply. Yes, we are using policy based backups and assigned VM’s to policy in VCenter. We have only one policy. There are 800+ VM’s and additional VM’s would get added to VCenter every day. Is there any way that VBA/Networker can auto discover the changed VM’s and reflect the same in the policy?
Thanks

I didn't play with this feature in 8.1, but my understanding is that policy management is in hands of VMWare admins. NW itself should have access via VC to inventory and I would expect it can deliver report as to what is protected and what is not.

Hi,
when you assign vm to your policy from Vsphere web client you can assign an entire directory or all your directories. If you check all directories ,automatically ,when a new vm appears it will be assign to the vba policy.
I recommend you to test nw8.2 that has new vmware protection function : first of all you can manage assignment from NMC ( and you can choose specific vmdk/disk for protection)
