Hello,

Normally ,  the new DISASTER_RECOVERY:\ save set encapsulates all of the critical volumes that are required to provide complete Windows DR capabilities.

The disaster recovery backup  creates save sets for each critical volume. The critical volume save sets are named  OSSR_driveletter where driveletter is name  of drive.

Example : if the Drive is C: drive   and it is crtical volume required to  provide complete windows DR capabilities, then  they would be listed as OSSR_C.

Can you please let us the know the erro message  with respect to  failure of the disaster recovery saveset backup

Thanks ,

Vishwanath

Just to confirm, it is critical that I backup the OSSR_driveletter.  Is this correct?

As said by Vishwanath, just Mention Saveset as "DISASTER_RECOVERY:\", it includes all critical Drives and system state. You just need this, in case of Disaster recovery.

You dont need to explicitly mention the OSSR_Drives in the client saveset. Just  "DISASTER_RECOVERY:\" will do.

Refer Admin guide and Disaster recovery for more details.

Also it would be good. If you let us know the error message.

Prajith

Hi,

Thank you all for your responses.  Our pdc (aer-pdc1) is the one that typically errors out when backing up these directories.  I am running an 'All' save set which should capture "DISASTER_RECOVERY:\" directory.  I have attached a snapshot image with the error:

I am not certain you need this piece for a Domain Controller as you could potentially pollute the environment if you restore it.  You should have one or more backup domain controllers.  That way you can just move the roles from one controller to another, then build a new server to replace the failed one and then promote it back to a domain controller.

The snapshot doesn't include the full error.  This is the error for OSSR_B:

savegrp: suppressed 3 lines of verbose output

skip: bits.log

<< "C:\Windows\System32\" >>

skip: bits.bak

<< "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\\" >>

+skip: *

77775:save: Processing completed for disaster recover backup.

81102:save: Unable to obtain volume label.

create_ossr_info_file: Could not instantiate interface IID_IXMLDOMDocument

82431:save: ASR Backup..calling create_ossr_info_file() and cannot continue.

83449:save: Error occured while saving critical volumes.

:  Failed with error(s)

OSSR_C:

savegrp: suppressed 3 lines of verbose output

Adanac,

Are you suggesting we not backup the DISASTER RECOVERY partition at all?

Getting  DISASTER_RECOVERY:\ 81102:save: Unable to obtain volume label. Anyone knows what it means?

Only FULL backup is supported for DISASTER RECOVERY save set as per AG.

If level is incr, does it reports skip? in 7.6.2, it reports as successful but in 7.6.3 it reports skips. Just to clarify.

TIA
