OpenVMS backup issue

Hi,

I'd like to know how to backup only last version of files on OpenVMS with Networker 7.4.

We don't use NetWorker to back up our remaining VMS system so I can't say for sure if this will work. If you end your save set with a semi-colon maybe that'll back up the last version of the files. Something like:

dsk:[*...]*.*;

If that doesn't work specify version 0, that means the last version in VMS:

dsk:[*...]*.*;0

Are you talking about full backups of incremental backups? I would assume you would always get last version backup - or what has changed since last backup thus last version would always be covered. As for full, I have no idea as docs do not discuss that. Actually, there is one document, but it suggests all versions are backed up (esg58547) unless you explicitly say which version you wish. I guess with saveset All or specific saveset you can do something like xxxx;last - but I could be wrong as my knowledge of OpenVMS is such that I only know that it exists :D

What is the difference between full and incremental backup? In both cases I'd like to backup only the last version of file. It doesn't matter that for example five versions of file were produced since last backup. I want only last one. I tried with some combinations of directives, but I was unsucessfull. I realy wants to know the EMC's oppinion.

In that case what Vic said should work.

The article I mentioned says:
- NetWorker for OpenVMS does not require explicit version numbers to backup a file.
- If an explicit version number is given, NetWorker backs up only that version of the file.
- If no version number is given NetWorker backs up all versions of the file.

If ,0 is identifier for last version that should work (hopefully it works on disk level and not just when file is used as saveset :D ).

OK Victor. This is correct. Thank you very much.
