Performance drop in case of multiple file(1MB×32,768files) with Networker 9.0
Hello All,
We are using networker 9.0 with w2k12 r2 for backup and restore to/from our secondary storage device .
We used different block size 32kb, 1024 kb media type adv_file.
observation from the gui of networker. : data transfer rate is 0 inbetween during the execution of backup
Any one can help to find out some tuning parameter.

Hi rashi.jain,
Is this just for the small file or have you checked the performance for larger files too? Have you tested backups using a large file (say 10GB) and compare the difference ? What kind of secondary storage are you using (is it a NAS box)?

And Since you are using a AFTD I assume you are using DSA backups. I dont see any tuning that can help your situation.
lets wait for the Top gun's B's anf H's comments.

Small files will never be fast due to standard file system bottlenecks. Have you tried BBB for specific case?

Hrvoje Crvelin, the source data is NAS so BBB is not an option correct ?
rashi.jain,
BBB is an abbreviation for Block Based backup.

Just to confirm you are doing NDMP backups correct ?
If yes, is it as DSA or native NDMP method ?

I don't think you can expect much better speeds with small files. Did you try copy and do you get better speed?

Fact that copy does it faster may indicate that some sort of tweaking is needed. Since you mentioned nw9, did you had the same results with nw8 before or is this first time install?

It could be something with nw9. Assuming all necessary settings were the same for nw8. In such case your best bet is to open support ticket with engineering.
