Problem with boost over FC

I have a dd2500 with DDOS 5.4.0.4, NW 8.1 on Linux x64 Redhat.

I can configure a boost device in NMC with the wizard. But when I try

to label the device I get the error:

Unable to initialize device 'degamdd02.eso.local_ddbackup_ing_fc': Connecting to 'DFC:degamdd02' failed ([5008] invalid argument).

degamdd02 is the datadomain name.

Connection is to 'DFC:degamdd02'. In the DD enterprise manager is should be 'DFC-degamdd02'

Are there issues with boost over FC.

regards

Bernd

Please consider moving this question as-is (no need to recreate) to the proper forum for maximum visibility.  Questions written to the users' own "Discussions" space don't get the same amount of attention and questions can go unanswered for a long time.

You can do so by selecting "Move" under ACTIONS along the upper-right.  Then search for and select: "Networker Support Forum" which would be the most relevant for this question.

Hello Bernd,

As you may know, you need to assign a new name for the DD appliance when configuring FC.

When creating devices you will need to use the name assigned to FC instead of the host name, maybe this is the reason for the failure.

Thank you,

Carlos

Hello Bernd,

I found recently an issue where DDBoost over FC doesn't work when PowerPath is installed.

Do you have PP installed?

If so try to disable the Windows Powerpath system device GPX General Purpose Extension.

This device is used by PP when migrating disks or encrypting disks.

The drivers for VNX and Symmetrix continue to work when this device is disabled.

Reboot is required though for this change to take effect.

Thank you,

Carlos

Hallo Carlos,

I just had to reboot the backup server. I works now fine. I could create an IP and a FC boost device and mount them

parallel. But when I back up to the IP device and would like to clone from the FC device to an LTO6 drive networker

always reads from the IP device.

Any idea. EMC told me this is: works as designed.

regards

Bernd

Hi Bernd,

Yes, this is the way it works. If you backup through IP interface/name, then it will read form the IP interface/name.

Thank you,

Carlos
