This end user has a 2 drive tape library and they have dedicated these drives to BU an HDS SAN. They are using Legato networker to facilitate the BU's from SAN to tape. If they add a new NetApp storage system can they write to th same drives to BU the NetApp system?

Hello Juice - The answer is, yes, you can share the tape drives between regular filesystem/application backups and backups of NetApp filers. The featue is called DSA, and it allows NetWorker to send NDMP backups to a storage node, and then put a standard NetWorker saveset format around the NDMP stream before sending it to tape with other backups. Using DSA to consolidate tape drive resources (= drive sharing) is the key value proposition. Simply consult the admin guide for confiugration and best practices.
And...
For those that are following the posts to this forum, we no longer use the name 'Legato'....we haven't for many years now. When we get questions that start with 'Legato' it implies the query is coming from someone who is using a very outdated - and unsupported - version. It's EMC NetWorker, or just NetWorker.
You'll also help the community to help you if you include the version that you are using, because things like licenisng, features and behavior have changed significnatly in recent versions.
Thanks for the post and best regards,
Mark
